An overnight fire destroyed a home in an east Pierre neighborhood.
There were no injuries as the couple and four children were not home at the time.
Fire Chief Bill Alexander says a police officer had noted the smell of smoke just after 11:30 p.m. and the house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Alexander says fire crews worked to protect homes on either side of the fire as they doused the burning structure with water.
