Fire Crews Keep Busy In Black Hills

Fire Crews Keep Busy In Black Hills
CUSTER, SD -

A change in the weather is expected to help fire crews fighting the Fork Fire in western South Dakota.

A few engines worked overnight to monitor and patrol the fire lines.

The Fork Fire was first reported around 6 a.m. on Thursday.  It is now estimated to be at more than 350 acres but it is 50 percent contained.

Families who live in the area had to evacuate for a time on Thursday, but they've since been allowed to return home.  The North Pole Road remains closed to unnecessary traffic.

The Fork Fire isn't the only one that crews responded to in the Black Hills.

Federal, state and volunteer fire departments are also fighting a fire at Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park.  The fire reached around one and a half acres.

Agencies kept busy with another fire near Custer State Park, called The Grace Creek Fire.  This wildfire burned more than 1 acre of land.

The Thrall Fire was reported just before 4 p,.m. Thursday and reached up to two acres in size.
