More than 3,700 pigs died Sunday night in a hog barn fire in southwest Minnesota.
Rock County authorities say they received a call about a fire at New Horizon Farms just northwest of Hardwick around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fire crews struggled to fight the fire because of the bitterly cold temperatures and strong winds.
The fire Sunday night destroyed the facility, but farm officials say the ten employees who worked at that location will be reassigned to new farms in the area.
No one was on site when the fire started and no one was injured.
Authorities say eight fire departments were called to the scene including Edgerton, Hardwick, Jasper, Luverne, Beaver Creek, Hills, Pipestone and Garretson, South Dakota.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
This is just one of New Horizon's five hog farms in the Minnesota area.
