You've likely heard of using Botox to help with wrinkles, but what about fillers? Local dermatologists say more people are asking for the cosmetic product.
Jamie Schuttloffel is trying a dermal filler for the first time.
"Around my mouth area there were some really pronounced wrinkles," Schuttloffel said.
The Lennox woman is one of an increasing number of local women looking to decrease the appearance of their wrinkles by heading to the doctor's office.
"A lot of them don't know. They come in and say, 'This bugs me. I want Botox here.' Well, that's not a Botox area. That's where we fill," Avera Dermatologist Dr. Jana Johnson said.
Johnson says the difference between Botox and fillers is that Botox freezes small muscle groups to prevent movement, but fillers are used to replace volume loss.
"So if people overtime lose some of their bone density in their cheeks or if the lines on either side of their mouth start to deepen or on the chin we use the filler to put that volume back in," Johnson said.
Fillers cost around $375 to $550 per syringe. Botox is a little less expensive. It costs about $200 to $250.
While Botox costs less, fillers last longer. Filler last anywhere from six to 12 months and Botox only about three to four months.
Schuttloffel is already planning to save up for fillers in the future. She could see the results immediately after the procedure.
"I feel more confident. I'm going to be 40 in the next month and I saw some wrinkles. This really helped. I feel a lot better. My face looks fresh," Schuttloffel said.
Along with more people asking for fillers, Johnson says they also have more types of the product.
The latest filler helps with superficial lines. Before doctors could only fill deeper lines and augment cheekbones.
