The Division of Criminal Investigation and the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the discovery of fetus bones in a rural Deuel County shelter belt.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says that a cooler with decomposed tissue and bones was discovered November 2. A second set of remains were discovered outside the cooler.
Expert reports show that the skeletal remains are of a term fetus with the approximate age of 40 weeks.
“Due to the circumstances surrounding and the nature in which the remains were discovered, the case is being treated as an open homicide investigation,” Jackley said. “Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance for any information that may assist law enforcement in this investigation.”
