Fatal Crash In Lawrence County
SPEARFISH, SD -

A man from Spearfish, SD died in an alcohol related, one vehicle crash five miles west of Spearfish on Friday, April 26.

Gabriel Culver, of Dickinson, ND, was drinking and driving eastbound on Homestake Road in a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup.

Culver, 27, was traveling downhill on a gravel and dirt road with three passengers when he lost control of the pickup on the right side of the road, over corrected and went into the north ditch.

The pickup struck an electrical box and then the side of a concrete bridge. The pickup came to rest on its side on the concrete area below the bridge.

The three passengers Nicholas Sukstorf, 24, Tyler Johnson, 22, and Chandler Harris, 23, were from Spearfish, SD.

Neither Culver nor Sukstorf were wearing a seatbelt in the front seat. Sukstorf was pronounced dead at the scene. Culver sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Spearfish Regional Hospital.

Johnson and Harris in the backseat were wearing their seatbelts and sustained minor injuries.

Culver has been charged with vehicular homicide, second DUI and careless driving.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
