Farkleberry Festival Draws A Crowd In Hayti

Farkleberry Festival Draws A Crowd In Hayti
HAYTI, SD -

A blast from the past is back in the tiny town of Hayti.

Saturday afternoon, floats of all shapes and sizes lined the street for the world's-only Farkleberry Festival.  The event celebrates a native prairie shrub that grows in the area.  Young and old alike are passing down the festival to a new generation.  Organizers say it was great to have the event back in town.

"It started back in 1987, some people just got together and decided the town needed a celebration.  They did it three years and they quit doing it.  A couple years ago, people came up with the idea again and we just went with it and decided to try it," Farkleberry Committee member Julie Holida said.

The festival continues wraps up on Sunday.
