BROOKINGS, SD -
The South Dakota State University Jackrabbit women's basketball team is headed to playoff weekend in Boulder, Colorado. The 13th ranked Jacks will take on number four ranked South Carolina in the first round of women’s play-off action Saturday.
The Jackrabbit women and fans packed into Cubby’s Sports Bar in Brookings for the official selection Monday night.
“I went to Oklahoma a few years ago. And last year I went with the men down to Albuquerque,” SDSU fan Pete Binker said.
“We try to get recognized and recognize the basketball team because they deserve to be recognized,” freshman cheer team member Haley Anderson said.
Boulder, Colorado will be filled with Blue and Yellow if these State supporters have their way. For five years now they've been in this exact same spot, moving from championship Summit League wins; starting over hoping for a storybook NCAA showing.
“We're not playing the home team right away and the girls are good. We've got a lot of people that can step up and do something,” Binker said.
“My husband will be going to the men's game. And the kids will to go the women's game,” Kari Fuks said, who has not missed a Jackrabbit women’s tournament game yet. “It always feels like a big family or a small community. Everyone gets around the team and the team is real close and makes it fun; and makes it fun to follow them.”
Boulder is the closest the team has ever played to South Dakota during the tournament.
Saturday's game is set for 3:10 p.m.
The South Dakota State men hit the hardwood Thursday night against Michigan in Michigan. That game is broadcast live on KELOLAND Television.
KELOLAND.com will also carry exclusive NCAA content during both tournaments.
