Friends and family plan to remember a two-year-old who died from an alleged assault by his mother's boyfriend.
Tyrese Ruffin was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital after being found unresponsive at an apartment on October 9; the boy died two days later.
A Lincoln County Grand Jury has indicted 27-year-old Joseph Patterson on one count of Second Degree Murder, two alternate counts of First Degree Manslaughter, Aggravated Battery of an Infant and felony child abuse.
Police say Patterson was alone with the boy when the assault happened. Doctors determined the boy's head injuries were the result of an assault, not an accident.
According to his obituary, a 'gathering of fellowship' starts at 6 o'clock at first Evangelical Free Church on West 69th Street in Sioux Falls on Tuesday.
Ruffin lived with his mother in Sioux Falls and is the son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, so the case has received national and international attention.
