Fall Parade Of Homes Starts Saturday

September 19, 2012, 6:21 PM by Peggy Moyer

Fall Parade Of Homes Starts Saturday
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

If you're looking to build a home or just remodel the one you have, there are plenty of ideas on this year's parade of homes.

A 5,300 square foot home sits on the hill side in the Prairie Hills south addition in Sioux Falls. It's one of two homes being featured this fall during the Home Builders Association's Fall Parade of Homes tour.

Home builder Kevin Johansen says color schemes might be one of the biggest changes this year. Soft grey is the new brown.

“[There’s] no real wild colors. All kind of in a tone of grey which was a new experience for me. We've all kind of been more into browns," Johansen said.

Builders say most people are looking for simple elegance or that timeless classic look to put into homes these days.

In one home you'll see a mix of wood finishes. Painted wood cabinets and trim work are combined with stained wood features. Johansen calls it the Pottery Barn look. He finds more people looking for a casual look and feel.

Energy efficiency is the other new home must have.

"In this home there's a lot of energy efficiency in it,” Johansen said. “There's one inch of foam in the side walls as well as having additional other blown in insulation. It has a high energy efficiency furnace, the 95 percent. It has an air to air exchanger."

More than 65 homes are on the Fall Parade of Homes tour starting Saturday.

The home tours are free, except for the feature homes.  But one $6 ticket will get you in both homes with the proceeds going to the Sioux Empire Home Builder Associations Care Foundation.

Tours start Saturday at 1:00. The homes are open Saturday, Sunday and Monday through October 1st.
