Fairgoers Using New Pass Option

August 10, 2010, 4:52 PM by Shawn Neisteadt

Fairgoers Using New Pass Option
SIOUX FALLS, SD - It's the first day of the 71st Annual Sioux Empire Fair, and despite some early day rain, the opening day appears to off to a strong start.

Of course, those who come out to the fair enjoy the music and food, but many of those who came out Tuesday did so for one reason.

They spin, twist, turn and flip.  The rides of the fair are always a main attraction.

"Like upside down rides and stuff and I get to be with all my friends and it's fun," Tianna Lovaas said.

"It's fun, exciting, stuff to do I guess," LeeAnn Molengraaf said.

And of course, there are always the reunions before school resumes.

"If we see people we know, we can see them and talk to them and just hang out and have fun," Tori Bertelsen said.

And some of those who are taking in the first day of the Sioux Empire Fair also took advantage of the new 50 "Sioux-per" pass and they say it will bring them back most of the week.

That pass is good for admission and all the rides the fairgoers can stand each day.

"I think it's a better deal than one day because it's $20 for one day but you can go all days for $50. I think it's worth it," Jade Lovaas said.

Those who have the pass say they think it will help bring more people to the 71st annual event. However, they also understand that the natural enemy of a fair is foul weather, but they say it's not going to slow them down this year.

"I still come anyway.  I don't care," Samantha Steen said.

"I just, if it's hot I just wear nice clothes or whatever and if it's cold, I'll bring a sweater," Lovaas said.

Fair CEO Tryg Fredrickson has said it appeared the new pass was working because there were more teens and others who take in the rides at the fair early in the day. The fair management hopes that's a sign of a strong week ahead.
