Events Planned For Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is domestic violence awareness month and to kick it off the South Dakota Coalition Ending Domestic and Sexual Violence is sponsoring some events across the state on Monday.

Events will be held in Sioux Falls, Pierre and Rapid City and feature speakers and a candlelight vigil to remember victims of homicides as a result of domestic violence.

Speakers for the events include survivors and advocates. At the Sioux Falls session, U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson will speak.

The events are open to the public and will begin at 6:00 p.m. central time.

The Sioux Falls event will be held at the Main Library, the Pierre event is on the front steps of the Capitol and the Rapid City event is at Memorial Park.
