We have a better idea of what we will be seeing in the events center in Sioux Falls. According to City officials, the Sioux Falls Stampede has signed a lease agreement that will make the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center home to Stampede hockey beginning in the 2014-2015 season. The contract is for five years with an option to extend for another five years beginning in 2019-2020. This agreement makes the Stampede the first main tenant of the new venue.
Luckily, Mortenson Construction crews are making great progress on building up the interior of the building.
"You never see the same thing the next day. It's just constantly changing," Chris Frank, Project Manager, said.
Workers enclosed the building weeks ago. Now the bulk of the work is putting up drywall, and ceilings to make the hallways and rooms.
"Yeah, it's great to see everything go into the place. All the walls starting to come together, the finishes going in. It's a really exciting time for the project," Frank said.
You can also see some of the more decorative features, such as the ceramic tiles which are in the finished bathroom. This is only the beginning. You can also see the shells of future concession stands that line the hallways.
Up on the suite deck, you will find some of the first seats in the building. Below in the bowl, workers are currently laying cold water pipes, which will make the ice and keep it frozen for the ice rink.
"It's a very complex system that no one even knows what it takes to put together the actual ice floor, and actually make the ice. So, it's a really neat system," Frank said.
These are some of the features that will make this space more than just a building. Frank said it is nice to see the events center taking shaping, but he knows there is still a long way left to go.
"I don't really see it as a daunting thing as months to go, it comes together so quick and it changes every day," Frank said.
