Electric companies are making progress in the Black Hills. But nearly 10,000 customers are still without power.
The goods news is that's down from more than 12,000 on Monday.
Deep snow, mud and downed trees are slowing crews down, some of which have to use snowmobiles to reach remote areas in the northern hills without power.
Officials with Black Hill Power say they are hopeful that all of its customers will have power by the end of the week.
And another 4,500 rural electric customers are still offline.
West River Electric officials say its crews are continuing the tedious job of restoring power to those areas as well. Nearly 1,800 people are still without power in that service area this noon.
Officials say it could take several more days until everyone's power has been restored.
