More than two years after a four-month-old girl died at a Sioux Falls day care, there are new developments in the case.
The woman who was supposed to be taking care of her pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child neglect and making a false report to law enforcement.
Edwards was charged in 2011 after four-month-old Meredith Ulmer died at her in-home day care. Ulmer's death was ruled accidental but that day Edwards left two unregistered teenagers in charge of 15 children at her day care, including Ulmer.
Edwards had taken nine other children to Wild Water West, meaning she had 24 children in her care that day, which is twice as many allowed by the city of Sioux Falls.
Edwards did not appear in court since both charges are misdemeanors. She faces the false report to law enforcement charge because she lied to police about how many children she had in her care that day.
Edwards faces a maximum of ten days in jail under the plea agreement.
She has not operated a day care since the summer of 2011 when the incident happened.
