Ebay Users Urged To Change Passwords

May 21, 2014, 11:55 AM by Angela Kennecke

PIERRE, SD -

If you use eBay, South Dakota's Attorney General wants you to change your password. Marty Jackley says consumers in the state should review their eBay account information for any suspicious activity in response to the massive data breach.

According to eBay, it was the victim of a cyber attack and that customer names, account passwords, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers and birth dates were stolen.

"Consumers need to take the time and review their eBay accounts and consider changing their passwords immediately," Jackley said. "It is unclear at this time how many of the 148 million accounts were affected, but consumers should be proactive and not wait for confirmation.”

Consumers can report anything suspicious should be reported to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division at 800-300-1986 or consumerhelp@state.sd.us.
