The 2013 Summit League basketball tournament tips off Saturday afternoon and we're more than a full year away from the 2014 event. But, next year's tourney created a frenzy of activity hours before the sun was up Friday morning. Basketball fans starting lining up a full 365 days before the event tips off.
"There are few tickets available on the bottom area so, so I have about 10 people depending on me to get them tickets also," Margaret Amundson said.
Amundson is first in line; she got in line before six in the morning. Tickets didn't go on sale until noon.
"I have a book in my purse to read," Amundson said.
This isn't the first time Amundson has waited in line for Summit League tickets and she's not the one who has been here before.
"I got here around eight a year ago when these tickets went on sale. I was about 20th in line and so I wanted to get a little bit better," Tyler Holmquist said.
Holmquist improved to fifth in line by arriving at 6 a.m. Friday. The SDSU fan says if the Jacks keep playing well, Summit Tickets will become even hotter items.
"When we play better, I'm going to have more competition in line for these tickets, so that is part of my motivation," Holmquist said.
And these fans can hope their teams are just as inspired when they take the court for this year's event.
Those buying tickets now have a good reason to. The Saturday evening session for this year's tournament is sold out.
2014 is also the last year the tournament will be in the arena. After that it moves to the new Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
