Tuesday morning, multiple agencies are investigating a fire in Tea. Fire crews were called to a strip mall with top-floor apartments around midnight for the report of a fire. Those flames were put out quickly with the help of the building's sprinkler system.
Tea Police tell KELOLAND News that they located suspicious chemicals while putting the fire out and believed there were more inside. Police say around 3:30 a.m. they obtained a warrant to search the apartment more thoroughly. Upon the search, they did conduct chemical tests outside of the building.
The Drug Task Force conducted tests on the chemicals found inside of the apartment. Tea Police say more chemicals were found but they are not telling us if those chemicals were dangerous or criminal in nature.
Tea Police Department, the Tea Fire Department, Investigators with the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Drug Task Force were on the scene of the fire at 615 E Brian Street.
All of the apartments were evacuated at the time as a precaution.
A letter was posted outside the apartment building shortly before just after 6 a.m. telling tenants they could return to their apartments.
