Eades Selected To Top Prospects Game Coaching Staff

The United States Hockey League announced Wednesday that Stampede head coach Cary Eades has been named to the coaching staff for the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 23rd in Muskegon, Mich.

Eades will join Dubuque head coach Jim Montgomery and honorary coaches Ron Mason and Doug Woog at the game. Eades and Montgomery were selected based on the face their teams were leading respective conference on January 1st.

In just his first season with the Stampede, Eades has led the Herd to a Western Conference best 22-8-1 record entering tonight’s game against Waterloo. The Stampede have won a season high six straight games and 9 of their last 10 overall.  The Stampede are the only USHL team with seven different skaters that have scored 10-or-more goals this       season.

Prior to joining the Stampede, Eades the last eight seasons at the University of North Dakota, two years as an assistant coach and six years as associate head coach. With Eades behind the bench, North Dakota competed in five of the last eight NCAA Frozen Four tournaments and won three straight WCHA Final Five tournament championships (2010, 2011 & 2012). In his first stint with North Dakota, he helped coach the team to a WCHA and NCAA championship in 1987.

This is Eades second stint in the USHL. He served as a head coach/GM of the Dubuque Fighting Saints from 1991 to 1993, winning a national championship in 1992.

Eades also spent 11 seasons (1993-2004) as the head coach at Warroad High School in Warroad, Minnesota. Under Eades, the Warriors won three Minnesota State “A” championships, including their first ever state championship in 1994. 

Eades will join Stampede goaltender Charlie Lindgren at the Prospects Game. Lindgren was selected to the team last week.  Fans can watch the USHL/NHL Prospects Game live on FastHockey starting at 6 PM (Central Time).

The Stampede return to action tonight (Wednesday) when they host the Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:05 PM.
