SIOUX FALLS, SD -
These days you can find nearly everything you need in downtown Sioux Falls.
"I walk to work and I walk home from work. So it's like I wake up to downtown and I go to bed with downtown," Erin Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman recently moved to downtown Sioux Falls. She says living and working downtown makes the city of Sioux Falls seem bigger than it is, which can be appealing to young professionals.
"It makes Sioux Falls seem bigger and the culture here is exciting and fun and the dining and the restaurants are all unique and amazing," Zimmerman said.
But, downtown Sioux Falls says that this area has not always been like it is today.
"If you look back a few years, we know how far it has already come. It wasn't as pleasant of a place to be some years ago," DTSF Event Director Maureen Ohms said.
Now young professionals, like Zimmerman, say downtown Sioux Falls is the place to be and events like Riverfest are helping it become that.
"With Riverfest and First Fridays, people are out from the moment it starts, from the moment they get off work until midnight or two in the morning, even," Zimmerman said.
For those living downtown, from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep the downtown culture is right at their back door.
"I think downtown is kind of the heart of Sioux Falls right now. It's growing, it's exciting, there are a variety of events," Zimmerman said.
