Drug Bust Turns Up Four Young Suspects

September 19, 2008, 4:55 PM by Cherlene Richards

Drug Bust Turns Up Four Young Suspects
A Sioux Falls drug bust has turned up meth, cocaine, more than 19-thousand dollars cash, and four young suspects, in their teens and early twenties.

While that may seem young investigators are not surprised.  Police made the bust at 1203 Summit Avenue, in central Sioux Falls. Officers arrested four people... an 18, 19, 20, and 21-year-old.

After a month and a half investigation the Sioux Falls Area Task Force busted into a Sioux Falls home, allegedly seizing marijuana, meth, cocaine, and halucianogenic mushrooms.

"We started the investigation, we got crime stoppers information, we get information from our confidential informers, we get all the information from officers on the street,” Lt. Steve Haney said.

In this case the defendants are young, in their late teens and early twenties. And Lieutenant Steve Haney, with the Sioux Falls Police Department, says that comes as no surprise.

"Unfortunately, there are individuals from all age groups involved in the drug trades, so it wasn't shocking to us that they were 18,19,20 years of age,” Lt. Steve Haney said.

Lt. Haney says in any case, says everyone needs to keep an eye out for anything suspicious and help officers get drugs, illegal money, and criminals off the streets.

"One of the strong points about the city of Sioux Falls, is that the citizens are very aware and they keep us well informed about the type of activity within their neighborhoods and that helps when we try to put a case like this together,” Lt. Steve Haney said.

Neighbors we talked with didn't want to go on camera, but tell us they aren't surprised about the arrests. They say it didn't take long to realize that something illegal might be going on here.  Neighbors we spoke to didn't want to go on camera, but say it didn't take long to realize what exactly was going on here.
