KELOLAND is in the average category for precipitation for this spring. But with average amounts of precipitation, the drought is starting to creep north. Last week, only the far eastern counties were considered 'Abnormally Dry' but the newest report has more counties seeing drought conditions.
Far eastern South Dakota and Minnesota are in the drought and now the south central counties of South Dakota have been included into the drought and areas farther south have intensified in the drought. But here in KELOLAND, cities like Brookings and Sioux Falls were in the drought but now cities like Winner in the south central portion of South Dakota are included.
Since we are looking at average amounts of rain for the rest of spring, the drought looks to continue into early summer.
