Drivers Numb To 20 Cent Gas Spike

September 13, 2012, 5:52 PM by Shawn Neisteadt

Drivers Numb To 20 Cent Gas Spike
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Gas prices usually drop after Labor Day.  However, KELOLAND drivers are now paying nearly 20 cents more per gallon than just a week ago.

With the average price for a gallon of gas inching towards the four dollar mark, KELOLAND drivers are growing numb to the cost of filling up.

"Honestly I don't really think about it because I need it.  It is what it is and I just try to drive a car that I won't make me spend hundreds of dollars a month on gas," Sarah Waters said.

Gas recently jumped in KELOLAND because of a supply disruption caused by Hurricane Isaac. Since that's where much of our gas comes from, the recent price increase is mainly being felt in the Midwest.

"They can go a little higher if they want, but not too much higher.  Maybe $4.50 and then I'll probably start walking," Art Boos said.

Experts with AAA say that relief is in sight though, production that was lost will soon catch up and demand will drop with the change of the season.

That should add up to a reversal of the upward trend at the pumps.

"It would be welcome, but we'll see I guess," Waters said.

And if the expected price drop is enough, it could just be reason to celebrate.

"I don't know what I'd do.  I'd probably go have a beer maybe," Boos said.

And chances are that's far more expensive per gallon than what drivers are paying to fill up their cars.
