Sioux Falls Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that hit a city plow early Christmas morning.
The 1998 Mazda hit the gas tank of the city truck around 2:30 a.m. Christmas morning.
Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said an officer had tried to pull the car over for a minor traffic violation shortly before the crash but it sped away. The officer decided not to chase the vehicle but a few minutes later it hit the plow as it was turning toward the bus stop on 10th Street in downtown Sioux Falls.
The driver and a 40-year-old female passenger fled from the scene on foot. Another passenger, a 28-year-old male, who was riding in the front seat, was pinned under the plow and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
The female passenger came back to the scene later and talked with officers and gave authorities the name of the driver. Police say both passengers were drunk and they suspect the driver was drinking too.
It will cost about $6,000 to repair the city truck.
