SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A major expansion may soon be in the works on Minnesota Avenue.
It's currently a four-lane road all the way to the southern edge of Sioux Falls. A plan is in the works to expand those extra lanes even farther to the south.
The state plans to widen the road as far south as Harrisburg. But before the plan moves forward, the state is getting some public input.
Residents who live along the stretch of SD Highway 115, known to most of us as Minnesota Avenue, say it is terrible to navigate during the early morning and evening rush hours.
If you remember, earlier this summer Minnesota Avenue was one of just two ways to get south out of Sioux Falls due to major construction projects closing other major streets like Louise Avenue. A four-way stop complicates things and slowed traffic to a near stand still for up 30 minutes or more.
This plan would widen Minnesota Avenue to four lanes from 85th Street in Sioux Falls to the Harrisburg corner. It's a State Department of Transportation plan that residents can hear more about at a meeting Tuesday night.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Harrisburg.
