A Syrian doctor says she doesn't understand why America wants to help the rebels trying to overthrow the Bashar Assad regime.
In a phone interview with KELOLAND News, the doctor says the rebels are killing entire villages.
The doctor KELOLAND News spoke with knows former South Dakota U.S. Senator Jim Abourezk and is from the city of Tartus, which is nearly three hours north of Damascus where President Barack Obama says President Assad dispatched chemical weapons that killed more than 1,000 people including hundreds of children.
But the doctor, who goes by the name Wafaa, says many of the rebels who are trying to take down the Assad regime are affiliated with al-Qaeda and she doesn't understand why America would intervene in Syria and side with the rebels in their effort to strike Assad and the Syrian government.
"I don't know why Americans support al-Qaeda. Now, we hate Americans,” Wafaa said.
Coming up tonight on KELOLAND News at 6, we'll hear more from Wafaa who talks about the ongoing conflict and the possibility of U.S. involvement.
