DOC Issues Alert Ahead Of Inmate Release

Ed Morris
SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A South Dakota inmate will be released from prison on Tuesday and the Department of Corrections says he could be a threat.
Officials say Ed Morris was sentenced to 10 years in prison back in October 2001 for 2nd Degree Rape out of Spink County. According to the South Dakota Sex Offender registry, Morris was charged after trying to rape a 45-year-old woman.
Because his sentence is expiring, 32-year-old Morris must be released. But Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk says assessments indicate Morris is a high risk to reoffend, which is why the DOC is alerting the public.
“The inmate has a criminal history of engaging in aggressive acts of sexual perpetration of vulnerable individuals, including children and the developmentally disabled," Kaemingk said in a DOC release.
Morris plans to live in Sioux Falls.
