Officials in Pierre say a local school district has saved about $500,000 after rebidding three construction projects.
The school board has awarded contracts to two different companies for the construction of a new elementary school. The board earlier this month had rejected some bids that were above estimate.
The largest contract awarded went to Mitchell-based Puetz Corporation. The $2.4 million contract is for general construction. The same company won a $697,000 bid for concrete paving.
Darla Mayer is the business manager for the Pierre School District. She says the savings will allow the district to afford concrete instead of asphalt for the entire school's parking lot and playground.
Superintendent Kelly Glodt says the district's goal still is to open the school in August 2015.
