Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Close To Open

July 22, 2014, 9:55 PM by Jared Ransom

Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Close To Open
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

One of the first signs placed at the site of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center said "Coming in Fall of 2014" and the crews working on the project have stuck to their plan.

"I think you'll agree when you go into the building, the finish level, the fans are going to enjoy it, the promoters are going to enjoy it, so a lot is happening," Public Works director Mark Cotter said.

Over the next few weeks, details involving signs, furniture and landscaping will be completed, making the PREMIER Center ready for public use.

"The first big event isn't until October, and we're really going to open the doors sometime in August as kind of a soft opening, get people in there and see how things work and how it flows," council member Dean Karsky said.

A final update on the building's progress was given to Sioux Falls City Council members, answering any questions that may have remained unaddressed. Overall, council members head toward opening day excited for what everyone will soon experience.

"I think everybody has those questions on a big project like this, so as we get closer to the end, should we have? Could we have? Those questions come into play, but those will go on forever and at the end of the day, we'll be getting what we paid for," council member Greg Jamison said.

"We have a facility that I think the whole community can be proud of. There's always a few kinks to iron out, I guess, over the next year we'll find out what those are," Karsky said.

One of those remaining kinks is bubbling panels on the outside of the building. City attorney Dave Pfeifle assured everyone that the issue will be fixed.

"It does take time and, again, it's informal where it's not going to be taking place here at Carnegie Hall. We would just hope that the public would allow that process to unfold," Pfeifle said.

"I'm glad that they're dealing with it. Today, I learned a lot about the process that's in place under the contracts that we have. There's obligations that they need to execute and everyone's on notice that we have an issue," Jamison said.

The work on the paneling will not impact opening day at all. An exact date for the soft opening of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center is not set yet. The final update for the project can be found at the City of Sioux Falls website.
