LYON COUNTY, IA -
A body found near the South Dakota-Iowa border has officials from both states investigating the death.
The scene is just east of Lake Alvin on the Iowa side of the border.
The Lyon County, Iowa, Sheriff's office is staying tight lipped about the situation.
Sheriff Blyth Bloemendaal says his office was called to the area around eight o'clock Tuesday night to start the investigation into the death. They were there all night and throughout Wednesday. The investigation involves not only his office, but the Iowa DCI and South Dakota authorities.
“I've got two jurisdictions to deal with right now; I don't want them to step on our feet and we're certainly not going to step on theirs,” Bloemendaal said.
A coroner was also on the scene Wednesday and took the body from the area. Then investigators pulled a Chevy truck with South Dakota plates out of the area and hauled it away on a flatbed.
At this point, there is no information about who may have been in that truck, but authorities are still working to gather evidence.
“We will finish the process of the vehicle, which means by this time (Thursday) I should know a lot more than I know right now,” Bloemendaal said.
The sheriff says that as soon as he has more information that he can pass along, he will.
