Deadwood Hoping For Highway Delay

April 6, 2012, 7:20 AM

DEADWOOD, SD -

The city of Deadwood is planning to ask the South Dakota Department of Transportation to delay widening a stretch of U.S. Highway 85 for one year.

Deadwood officials hope the delay would give them time to iron out concerns from residents and businesses about the widening. The 2013 Department of Transportation project will widen the stretch that winds from Cemetery Street in Deadwood to theintersection of Highway 385.

The South Dakota DOT has notified property owners along the Highway 85 corridor who will likely be affected by the project.

The widening and addition of a center turn lane would remove all on-street parking.
