Deadwood Gaming Industry Poised To End 2013 Down

New statistics from the South Dakota Commission on Gaming say that Deadwood's gaming industry is poised to show a moderate decline in revenue for 2013.

Gross revenue for the year through November is down more than three percent, dropping by more than $3 million.

Slot machine revenue, which makes up the bulk of Deadwood gaming dollars, is off nearly four percent this year.

The Deadwood Gaming Association's Mike Rodman says that's a big concern because slot play is 90 percent of the industry's business. He says the industry has to recapture the market that has been lost to competitive jurisdictions.

Table game play provided the lone bright spot, with revenues up nearly eight percent. Rodman attributes that to a bet limit increase.
