A car crash on Interstate 29 near the 12th street intersection resulted in the death of one person on Saturday, September 21 according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
A Sioux Falls man died on Interstate 29 after losing control of his vehicle. The man was driving a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria, heading northbound on I-29. He lost control of the vehicle, entered the median and started to slide sideways into the southbound lanes. The vehicle was struck in the southbound lanes by a 2012 Buick Enclave in the middle lane. Once struck, the Crown Victoria was split in half, ejecting the driver who sustained fatal injuries. Both halves of the car caught on fire. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue put out the fires.
The driver and passenger in the Enclave sustained minor injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts and were transported to the hospital.
No further information is available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
