If you don't live on the Sioux Falls east side, or haven't taken a drive over there lately, you may not have noticed all the new businesses.
Development is booming along East 10th Street and Arrowhead Parkway. After a lull during the recession, more retail, services and restaurants are coming to Dawley Farm Village.
Dirt is being moved for the construction of the city's third Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant and bar. It's just one sign of growth at Dawley Farm Village.
"This project is prime for that because we have available land as we just talked about with the infrastructure improvements and the connection to I-90 and getting the traffic flow going; and some new tenants to the area. Even the strip mall stuff you're seeing down E. 10th Street, it's just good for the whole project and area," Raquel Blount of Lloyd Companies said.
All the existing retail spaces, except for one here are full. Ashley Furniture moved in six months ago and business is already better than expected.
When Ashley furniture moved from the west side, it doubled its store size to 50,000 square feet, anticipating the growth on the east side.
"And I can just see in two to three years this is going to be a great place to be. With more businesses coming in, we're going to do very well over here I think," Manager Greg Brandt said.
The second phase of Dawley Farm Village was just rezoned for commercial and you can expect development on an additional 180 acres to begin soon.
"We hope to continue with this type of development where we have junior boxes, small anchors and specialty retail," Blount said.
And there are efforts to bring in another big box store.
"Those deals tend to take a year plus to work through, so unfortunately we don't have anything to announce today. But we are actively negotiating with that right now," Blount said.
Blount says in the meantime; look for more boutiques, other kinds of retail, service businesses and restaurants at Dawley Farm Village.
Buffalo Wild Wings is putting up an additional building as well, but hasn't said what will go in it.
Another business with plans for a 10,000 square foot building to the east of Ashley Furniture is expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks.
