A 37-year-old parole absconder admits he killed his girlfriend outside Chamberlain last spring.
Kent Davidson pleaded guilty to first degree murder Wednesday afternoon in Brule County and was immediately sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Davidson murdered 26-year-old Crystal Schulz in a shed at her mother's rural Chamberlain home last March. Davidson was arrested in Sioux Falls three days later following a four-hour standoff with police.
In court Wednesday Davidson admitted that he got upset when Schulz told him that she wanted to break off their relationship. Davidson admits to going out to a shed to commit suicide but he says his 'mind flipped' and he coaxed Schulz to come out to the shed where he shot her in the back of the head.
Davidson made a brief apology to Schulz's family in the courtroom Wednesday before he was taken away to serve his life sentence.
