South Dakota's governor plans to sign a bill to reform the state's criminal justice system on Wednesday.
Governor Dennis Daugaard will sign Senate Bill 70 during a ceremony at the State Capitol.
The South Dakota Public Safety Improvement Act changes the way the state deals with non-violent drug and alcohol offenders. It will increase the use of specialized drug and alcohol courts. It also changes the way the parole and probation system is structured, by reducing probation for every month an offender goes without a violation.
