Daugaard To Present Budget; Educators Hopeful

Daugaard To Present Budget; Educators Hopeful

Governor Dennis Daugaard will give his annual budget address at the capitol in Pierre Tuesday afternoon and the conversation of "what could be" is already heating up.

While the numbers for the proposed budget are still sealed, many people believe education funding will once again come out on top.

The possibility of a three percent increase in funding has many teachers and administrators on their toes after an 8.6 percent cut two years ago.

Many had hoped Initiated Measure 15 would provide a one percent tax increase to go to schools, but it failed during last month's election.

An increase to Medicaid funding is also something that may be talked about.

KELOLAND News will have a crew in Pierre this afternoon to cover the address. You can watch it live on our Live Coverage page of when it begins at 1 p.m.
