Daktronics Installs Electronic Billboard At Events Center

January 24, 2014, 4:55 PM by Leland Steva

Daktronics Installs Electronic Billboard At Events Center
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center added a feature today as Daktronics installs a new video board to the exterior of the events center.

The electronic billboard being installed is in four pieces, and it will be 14 feet tall and 48 feet wide. Daktronics manufactured the board here in Sioux Falls. Officials with the display company say they're happy to stay close to home to work on this project.

It's not lighting up the outside yet, but this billboard will advertise future events at the PREMIER Center. Daktronics workers have traveled the world installing video display boards, similar to this one.

"It's not common we get a job in our backyard like this in Sioux Falls," Senior Project Manager Aaron Louwagie said.

Once the parts were brought in, the board took five weeks to complete. Louwagie has worked for Daktronics for 11 years. The Marshall, Minnesota native is enjoying working on a project he'll see in the future.

"It's been kind of nice having a job in the hometown where travel becomes less of an issue. No flights, no overnight stays, so it's been nice, very refreshing," Louwagie said.

Aside from those benefits, Louwagie also thinks the events center billboards are a good challenge.

"This job is really good for Daktronics and the city here. Really good scope for us, lot of different product lines for us in this particular venue so real happy to be part of it," Louwagie said.

The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center is also pleased with the efforts of the display company, and Special Projects Manager Kenda Siemonsma is grateful for contributions from local workers.

"One of our project goals and it's always been a project goal and what we asked the voters to trust us that we would do once the event center was passed was we would use 85 percent of local participation so it's really important to us. Our local subcontractor community is really building the event center," Siemonsma said.

Daktronics work is not done yet. In mid to late February the workers will shift their efforts inside to install the scoreboard and other video screens.
