The Dakotas Region of the American Red Cross has been called to assist with the disaster relief efforts in Colorado. Flood continues to affect the area and two crews from South Dakota along with Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV’s) will be deployed to the area.
Dave and Joyce Jeffries, long time disaster volunteers, left Rapid City with one ERV, expected to arrive in Colorado the evening of September 15.
A crew will depart from the Sioux Falls Red Cross office on Monday, September 16 at 7 a.m. Volunteers Bonnie Holmquist from Redfield and Greta Gibson from Mitchell will leave with the ERV in Sioux Falls to assist with mass care feeding.
The Red Cross is working closely with emergency management officials, the Colorado National Guard and local community organizations as they support shelters and evacuation centers in many locations for those affected by the flooding.
The Red Cross is providing a safe place to stay for those evacuated with blankets, cots, meals and emotional support.
