Some generous Saturday morning shoppers helped fill local food pantries with their donations.
In between grabbing a cart and stocking up on groceries, people could donate $10 to Feeding South Dakota and in return get a ticket to a Phil Vassar concert on March 26.
The event, which is sponsored by local dairy farmers, will help provide dairy products to the dinner tables of those in need. And this is something Feeding South Dakota Eastern Operations Manager Jim Dawson says is much appreciated.
“Events like this are extremely important to us because we don’t get a lot of dairy donated to our organization. It’s such a perishable item. So, now these funds we can use to buy specifically dairy products,” Dawson said.
And local dairy farmer behind the donation drive know the importance of providing families and growing children with fresh dairy products.
“Dairy is probably one of the move healthy foods out there. It has nine essential nutrients that we need in our diets everyday,” dairy farmer Doug Ode said.
A second donation event is planned for Saturday March 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lewis Drug on 41st and Minnesota in Sioux Falls.
You can also donate at any First Bank & Trust in Sioux Falls and Canton, any Lewis Drug Store in Sioux Falls, Brandon, Huron and Madison and all Hy-Vee stores in Sioux Falls. Donations will be accepted February 16 through March 26.
