SIOUX FALLS, SD -
How many parents would put their four year old on the seat of a dirt bike, let alone let them race around a dirt track? Well for one little racer he didn't just start racing at age four, he dominated, and hasn't stopped since.
Meet Dahne Barbee. In his eight years on this earth he has spent the past five on the saddle of a dirt bike. Now if you think that is crazy wrap your mind around this, coming into this weekend he won five straight titles. With a resume like that it’s easy to see why he loves life in the fast lane?
"Because you can win some races and be number one," Dahne Barbee said.
He is a kid of few words, but he lets his driving and trophies do the talking for him. His cousin Gunner started at four and still races at age 19. Dahne's father saw his son's interest at the track and didn't think twice about putting him on a bike.
"Not really, it seemed like we didn't put training wheels on the bike at all. We just brought him out here, put him on a little 50cc, and he took right off," Ashley Barbee said.
As they say the rest is history. For the Barbee family it is a history that revolves around the track.
"It's a huge family event for us. We have a lot of family that come out and watch us. A lot of the racers out here are like family. Racing has always been in the family. My brother and a few of my nephews race also," Ashley Barbee said.
Dahne is a third generation driver. He has won titles both on dirt and snow in his short career. However his dad has surrounded him with plenty of positive mentors and he says his little racer has what it takes to accomplish his big dreams.
"He is very good. He catches on really quick. He listens to a few different people. We have a couple coaches that help him and he listens to everything they say. He wants to be a Grand National champion someday. That is the top tier of flat track racing," Ashley Barbee said.
Last night at Saddleback race track Dahne came into the final race with a 3 point lead in season points. Needless to say he left the track with his sixth racing title.
