A Custer man who has spent 21 years competing in demolition derbies is retiring.
Travis Gramkow has been training, studying, strategizing, experimenting and sweating over his cars for two decades.
But Saturday night's demolition derby at the Central States Fair was his last.
The idea is to crash into other competitors, disable their vehicles and be the last car rolling.
Gramkow says after more than 200 derbies, he's hanging up his helmet for good. He says heart and health problems forced Gramkow to begrudgingly give up this sport he loves so dearly.
He says his favorite cars to use have always been Chryslers from the 1970s or 1980s as that was back when they still had cars made of steel.
