CSB: USD Completes Sweep Of Western Illinois

VERMILLION, S.D. – Rachel Cue struck out seven while giving up three hits as the Coyotes shutout Western Illinois 2-0 to complete the series sweep at Nygaard Field on Saturday.

Cue, a freshman from Garden Grove, Calif., gave up just three hits and no walks in the complete game effort.  She retired 12 of the last 13 batters she faced.

Offensively, South Dakota (22-13, 5-3) tallied one run in both the first and second innings.  Allie Daly drove in Yvon Minogue from first base on a RBI double in the first.  It was Daly’s fifth RBI of the series and 24th of the season.

Christine Broders drove in the second run on a RBI single in the second, scoring Matley Jones from second. Jones led off the inning with a double.

The Leathernecks (18-19-1, 4-8) threatened only once in the game, putting runners on second and third in the third inning with two outs. Coyote third-baseman Lindsey Boyd ended the threat by snagging Teagan Walsh’s line drive down the third base line.

The Coyotes, who have won five of their last seven games, will play a doubleheader at Kansas City on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.
