CSB: SDSU Ends Skid With Sweep Of DWU
BROOKINGS, SD -

The South Dakota State softball team snapped a season-long skid on Wednesday with a 9-1 and 10-7 sweep of Dakota Wesleyan at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.

Alyssa D’Agostino led the Jackrabbits on the day with a 4 for 6 day at the plate, with two doubles and five RBI. Kelly Kleppin went 4 for 7 on the day with a double and a pair of RBI, while Devan Larson hit her team-leading fourth homerun of the season.

Ashlyn Bender picked-up the win in the opener, tossing all six innings, scattering four hits and giving up one run with three strikeouts and two walks.

Jennifer Sutton won Game 2, giving up five runs on eight hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.

The Jacks scored all the runs they would need in Game 1 in the first inning, plating a pair on two hits and one Tiger error, highlighted by a two-run double by Elyse Eitel.

Larson made it 4-1 Jacks in the third with her homer before Kleppin made it 6-1 with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning and D’Agostino 8-1 with another two-RBI double in the fifth.

The opener ended in the bottom of the sixth with one out, when Larson singled home Kleppin for the game’s final run.

Down 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning in Game 2, the Jacks plated nine runs on nine hits to take a commanding 9-2 lead.

The Jacks added one more in the sixth, and held off a late Tiger charge to hang on for the 10-7 win.

SDSU looks to make it three in a row on Friday, when the Jackrabbits close The Summit League regular season schedule against South Dakota. The three-game series starts with a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday at noon.
