CSB: Jacks Get Swept By Omaha
BROOKINGS, SD -

The South Dakota State softball team battle for the first three innings, but the visiting Omaha Mavericks came on strong in the latter innings to secure a 12-4 win over the Jackrabbits to complete the three-game series sweep.

The Jacks fall 7-19 with the loss overall and to 2-13 in Summit League play, while the Mavericks improve to 26-15 overall and to 7-5 in the league.

Down 2-0 entering the bottom of the first inning, the Jacks used a pair of singles, a walk and a balk to halve the lead to 2-1, where things stood until the third inning.

The Mavs got two hits, including a Lizzie Noble two-run homerun, and a Jackrabbit error to score three runs in the frame to go back up 5-1, only to see the Jacks match that total in the bottom of the third on a two-RBI double from Devan Larsen and an Allison Huffman RBI single to cut the lead to 5-4 in favor of the Mavericks.

Omaha got those three runs back in the fourth, and then added two runs each in the fifth and seventh innings, all while holding the Jacks scoreless the rest of the way to seal the win and series sweep.

Noble led all hitters in the game with a 4 for 5 effort, including the homer, a triple and six RBI and three runs scored. Larsen led the Jacks at the dish with a 2 for 3 game, with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Dana Elsasser got the win in the circle to improve to 21-7 on the season. She gave up four runs on eight hits, with eight strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Ashlyn Bender took the loss after surrendering 10 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits, with a strikeout and four walks.

The Jacks look to snap the skid on Wednesday, when they host Dakota Wesleyan in a non-conference doubleheader at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium at 2 p.m.
