CSB: Creighton Sweeps SDSU

OMAHA – Devan Larson hit her team-leading third homerun in the opener and Katie Lang gave up just three hits in the nightcap, but Creighton used a big inning to win Game 1 by a 10-2 score and completed the sweep with a 3-0 win in Game 2 on Tuesday.

The losses drop the Jackrabbits to 7-23 on the season, while the home standing Blue Jays improve to 24-14.

Creighton opened the scoring in Game 1, scoring a pair of runs on three hits in the bottom of the first, but the Jacks responded in the top of the second, when Devan Larsen smacked her team-leading third homerun of the season, a two-run shot over the fence in right center to tie the game at 2-2.

Still tied at two in the bottom of the third, Creighton’s Bri Lingl broke the tie with a solo homer over the centerfield fence to give the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead.

Still 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Creighton erupted for seven runs on six hits and capitalized on a pair of SDSU miscues to score seven runs and end the game with a 10-2 Blue Jay win.

KayCee Miller went 2 for 2 at the plate in the opener and scored on Larsen’s dinger. Larsen went 1 for 2 on the day, while Ashlyn Bender took the loss in the circle.

Creighton again opened the scoring in Game 2, plating a trio of runs on back-to-back homeruns by Alexis Cantu and Lingl; Cantu’s a two-run shot, followed by Lingl’s solo blast.

The Jacks settled down after that and didn’t allow any more runs, but could only manage one hit, a two-out single by Miller in the third inning.

Katie Lang went the distance for the Jacks, giving up three runs on three hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Jackrabbits look to get back on the winning track on Friday against North Dakota State, when they play at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium for the first time since April 29, 2012. The Jacks and Bison kick off the three-game series with a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
