CSB: Augie Gets Another Home Sweep
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

No. 11 Augustana College softball picked up its second straight home sweep on Sunday afternoon downing Northern State 4-3 in game one before winning the nightcap 7-1.  With the two wins, Augustana improves to 22-5, 5-1 NSIC heading into a crucial two-game set with Winona State on Wednesday. Northern State drops to 8-14, 1-5 NSIC on the year.

Jenelle Trautmann earned both wins on the afternoon for Augustana improving to 15-2 on year year. She started both games and allowed just four hits and two runs on the day, throwing a one-hitter in the second game this afternoon. Trautmann finished the second game with five strikeouts, giving up the lone run on a solo home run.

Carley Pickett added to her conference lead in saves by picking up her sixth of the year in game one. Pickett tossed two innings and struck out three batters.

Lindsay Spanton had quite the day at the plate finishing 5 for 6 with two doubles and two RBI in the two-game set.

Game one
Spanton was 3 for 3 to lead the Vikings at the plate in game one. Emily Heinz came up with the big hit for the Vikings blasting her second home run of the season while going 1 for 3 with two RBI in the opener.

Augustana jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Trautmann and Spanton. With runners on first and second, Trautmann singled up the middle to score Mackenzie Alstott who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. On Trautmann's single, Sarah Kennedy moved up to third from first base and later came into score the game's second run on Spanton's RBI single to center field.

Trautmann set the Wolves down in order in the second and third innings and stepping up to the plate with a runner on first and two outs, Heinz delivered her second home run of the season, a towering shot down the left field line to give Augustana a 4-0 lead.

Northern State broke through with its first hit of the game in the fourth inning but Trautmann got out of the jam. In the fifth, the Wolves started off the inning with a double from Lindsey Hubler who came around to score on Lauren Kunz's RBI single in the very next at bat to make it a 4-1 game.

Augustana got back-to-back two-out singles in the fifth inning but ended up leaving two runners on setting up Northern State's two-run sixth inning to make the score 4-3. NSU's Rachel Albright got on base on a two-out walk and 10-pitch battle Eryn Yancy blasted a two-run home run to left fielding making it a one-run game.

Pickett came back out in the sixth and slammed the door shut pitching around a leadoff single to record her sixth save of the season and give the Vikings the victory.

Game two
Trautmann took a no-hitter into the fourth inning before Northern State's Rachel Albright hit a solo home run to right center. Three Vikings had two hits in the second game with Alstott, Trautmann and Spanton each going 2 for 3.

Augustana struck early once again going for three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Spanton started the rally with a double to lead off the inning and was followed by a single from Erin Kempf. Kempf then stole second base and both her and Spanton came around to score on a two-RBI single by Heinz to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead. Caitlin Nichol made it 3-0 driving in Heinz with two outs in the inning.

Trautmann set the Wolves down in order in the top of the third inning and the Vikings went off for four more runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-0 lead. Alstott led off with an infield single and then stole second base. Sarah Kennedy then walked to put runners on first and second and Trautmann singled to right center to score a run and move Kennedy to third.

One pitch later, Spanton doubled to left field moving Trautmann to third and scoring Kennedy and Kempf drove in another run while reaching on a fielder's choice. Jordan Schaffer drove in the fourth run of the inning to score Spanton and give the Vikings a big cushion headed to the fourth inning.

Northern State plated its only run in the top of the fourth on a leadoff solo home run by Albright making it a 7-1 game, where it would stay and end up being the final score.

Next up for the Vikings is a showdown with No. 20 Winona State which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 2, in Winona, Minn.
