Snow plow crews are working to clear streets in Spearfish and focusing on ones that have not had any plowing yet.
They will not be doing any more widening passes; instead, crews hope the warm weather and sun will help melt the snow to make travel easier in town.
There are also plans to clear trees and branches that fell in the storm. City crews are working to remove limbs in the right of way.
The city is setting up two drop points for branches. The site at the BHSU Dirt Parking Lot off St. Joe Street will accept limbs of all sizes; the one at the City Park Pavillion Park lot off Canyon Street will not accept limbs larger than 6" diameter. These drop points will be available daily from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. starting on Tuesday, October 8. The drop points will have machinery available to unload limbs and the city will do chipping operations at these locations. Limbs will be accepted at no charge at the drop points.
If you aren't able to haul your branches, you can also stack them on the curb for removal at no charge. You must stack them on the city right of way, parallel to the street in neat piles. In upcoming weeks, the city will be making passes through areas to remove the limbs.
