A special night blast at Crazy Horse honored the life of Ruth Ziolkowski.
On Thursday, which would have been her 88th birthday, visitors watched a display that was designed and crafted to recognize the woman who led progress on the project since 1982. Continuing with a long tradition at the memorial, visitors enjoyed birthday cake following the blast.
Ziolkowski, who died May 21 following a battle with cancer, was married to sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski.
The 138th anniversary of Battle of Little Bighorn, in which Crazy Horse fought in the defeat of Col. George Armstrong Custer, was also recognized at the memorial during the night blast.
