Council To Take Up Snow Gates, Railroad Move, Pool

December 11, 2012, 12:17 PM

Council To Take Up Snow Gates, Railroad Move, Pool
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The Sioux Falls City Council is scheduled to discuss several items that have gotten a lot of attention in the community during its 4 p.m. Informational Meeting Tuesday.

The City Clerk is expected to hand over the more than 8,000 signatures petitioners gathered to bring the "snow gate" issue to a public vote.  This is the third year the city has tested the devices on plows and petition organizers want the public to decide whether to keep them. Now it's the council's turn to pick a date for the public vote.

Members will also give an update on the railroad relocation project in downtown Sioux Falls. Under the latest proposal, the city would buy the downtown rail yard from Burlington Northern Santa Fe and not build a new yard outside of town.  That would free up about nine and a half acres for redevelopment.

Signs that line the streets of Sioux Falls streets could also see some changes.  The council is scheduled to get an update on proposed changes to the sign ordinance that could require local businesses to have a permit.

The Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department will also discuss the possibility of building an indoor pool in Sioux Falls.

We'll have a reporter at the meeting to bring you the latest on the issues tonight on KELOLAND News at Six and Ten.
